Цель урока: обобщить и проконтролировать знания учащихся по теме «Американские праздники»

Задачи: 1) воспитательная: воспитывать у учащихся чувство уважения к истории и культуре страны изучаемого языка, а через это и к своей родной национальной культуре;

2) практическая: провести практику устной речи, чтения и письма, активизировать лексику по теме «Праздники»;

3) развивающая: развивать творческую фантазию и инициативу в осуществлении иноязычной деятельности, а также познавательные интересы учащихся.

3. Приложение к газете «1 сентября» - "English”

Оснащение урока: компьютер с мультимедийным проектором, Web-страницы по теме урока, магнитофон, карточки с кроссвордом, лексическим заданием и бланком приглашения, запись на доске «Learning a language has a beginning but no end.» (Palmer)

Ход урока

I.                   Подготовительный этап.

1.      Оргмомент.

Учитель: Good morning, boys and girls! I am really very glad to see you. Please take your seats. How are you, children?

Дети: We are fine, thanks. And you?

Учитель: I am fine too. Thank you. Let`s start our lesson. At the previous lessons we spoke much about different holidays. Today we have the final lesson of the third unit "Celebrate”. The theme of the lesson is "American Holidays” The aim is to remember the main holidays, their symbols and ideas and have fun.

Учитель: First of all answer my questions about holidays. (домашняя страница «American Holidays»)

1.      Do you like holidays?

2.      What Russian holidays do you know?

3.      What is your favourite holiday? Why?

4.      Do you know American holidays? Name some of them.

5.      What holidays do they celebrate in winter?

6.      When do they have Christmas?

II. Основной этап.

   1. Обобщение и закрепление материала по теме «Праздники»

а)Christmas (страница «Christmas»)

Учитель: Well, right you are. It is on the 25^th of December. The first holiday we`ll speak about is Christmas.

- Let`s start with poems. Will you, P₁? (Дети рассказывают стихи о Рождестве.)

- OK, children, look at the screen. There is a text on it. I want you to read this text and then answer some questions. Be careful. (Дети читают текст.)

      - Well done. And now the questions:

1)      What kind of holiday is Christmas?

2)      Why is Christmas one of the happiest holidays?

3)      Who visits Americans this day?

4)      When does he deliver presents?

5)      How does Santa Claus get into the houses?

6)      What do people do in the morning?

б) St.Valentine`s Day (страница «Be My Valentine»)

Учитель: Well, the next holiday, one of the most beautiful and kindest, is St. Valentine`s Day. When is it celebrated? That`s it. What do you know about this holiday? (P₁ P₂ P₃)

1)      It`s a day of love and friendship.

2)      People send greeting cards to their sweethearts and friends.

3)      The students also decorate their classrooms with big red hearts.

4)      They give flowers and chocolate to the sweethearts, friends and family.

5)      People ask their sweethearts to "Be my Valentine”

- By the way, what does "Be my Valentine” mean?

                                   It means "be my friend or love”

- Correct. Look at the screen. We see some good tips for keeping a friendship going. Read them. Do you agree with the tips? Is anything you can add? Thank you, that was very interesting.

-  And what about Russia?

Учитель: The next holiday we`ll speak about is Easter. Your hometask was to prepare a project about this day. Who is eager to defend it? You are welcome. (группа учащихся защищает свой проект)

- Excellent! That was very interesting. Students, do you know Easter symbols? What do they stand for?

Учитель: And now we`ll speak about the most important holiday in the USA, Independence Day. Why is it so important? I offer you a role-play, telebridge between Russian and American students. This group is Russian and that one is American. P<sub>1</sub>, you`ll be a correspondent (учащиеся ведут беседу о Дне Независимости в Америке и России) (примерные вопросы)

1)      When do you celebrate this holiday?

2)      What is the symbol of freedom?

3)      The Statue of Liberty is a gift of people of France , isn`t it?

4)      Where is it situated?

5)      Do you know how American flag is called?

6)      How many stripes and stars on it? What do they stand for?

7)      Who was the first President of the USA?

8)      Which are the main slogans of this holiday?

9)      What is the symbol of Russia?

10)  Will you describe Russian flag?

11)  When is Independence Day celebrated in Russia? Etc.

       д) Thanksgiving Day (страница "Happy Thanksgiving ”)

Учитель: Well done, and the last holiday we`ll discuss is Thanksgiving Day. As you know it is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. People gather at home to give thanks for all the good things in their lives. On the screen we have got some sentences about this holiday. I`d like you to choose the right answer in each sentence on your own in written form. Take your cards and do the task. (звучит спокойная музыка)

         2.  Контроль знаний учащихся по теме «Праздники»

- And now match the holiday with the picture.

1.      Подведение итогов урока

Учитель: Well, children, I am pleased with your work today. You were very nice, clever and cheerful. I see that you know American holidays perfectly. Have you enjoyed the lesson? OK.

      2. Домашнее задание

- At home you should create your own greeting card with the inscription, devoted any holiday you like.
